Sal teaches the MCAT, ACT, and college application preparation. A rising senior at Duke University majoring in Biology, Marine Science, and Conservation, he scored a 520 on the MCAT (97th percentile) and carries a 4.0 GPA. At Duke, he works as a research assistant in the Somarelli Lab within the Duke Comparative Oncology Group, studying the long-term effects of low-dose PFAS exposure on human cell lines using comet assays, fluorescent microscopy, and reactive oxygen species quantification. His work is currently contributing to a manuscript in preparation. He has also conducted field research at Duke Marine Lab examining PFAS-induced reproductive toxicity in sea urchin gametes and biofouling organism responses to aquaculture-derived leachates along the North Carolina coast. Clinically, Sal has shadowed in medical oncology at Duke Cancer Center, Mohs micrographic surgery, robotic-assisted general surgery, and dermatology, and has volunteered with Duke RAM mobile clinics serving uninsured patients across rural North Carolina. A Duke Scholar in Marine Medicine, he conducted fieldwork in Ecuador and the Galรกpagos Islands examining how environmental change affects human health. Sal is applying to MD programs for the 2027 entering class with a focus on oncology and environmental medicine. He is passionate about making rigorous academic content accessible and believes that strong test preparation starts with understanding the material, not just the exam.
